Warwick, NY…LeylandAlliance, the developers of Warwick Grove, the new Traditional Neighborhood in Warwick, NY, is proceeding with its long-standing commitment to donate land from the development for a new public library facility. The 2.2 acre parcel has been considered as a site for the new library since 2003. Transfer of the deed to the land from the Warwick Grove Company to the Albert Wisner Public Library took place on September 11th.

Located on McFarland Drive, the site for the new library borders Memorial Park. Plans for the new facility include room for a larger, more diverse collection and more computers. It will have dedicated spaces for children’s programs as well as cultural and educational programs. The larger site will also provide room for a generous amount of parking spaces, making it more easily accessible for seniors and the handicapped. The original library building, constructed in 1927, was intended to serve a population of 2,300 and had no parking. Since then, the population of the area has grown more than ten-fold”.

“The time for a new library in Warwick is now, and we are grateful for LeylandAlliance’s help in achieving this important goal,” states Donna Applegate, President of the Albert Wisner Public Library’s Board of Trustees. Rosemary Cooper, Library Director adds, “With the land donation and the architects’ concepts in place, we’re looking forward to finalizing the plans and budget and setting a date for a referendum on funding for the project.”

Louis Marquet, Executive Vice President Construction for LeylandAlliance, adds, “We’re extremely pleased for the opportunity to give something back to the Warwick community. 100 years ago, civic buildings such as libraries were traditionally the most important buildings in a neighborhood. The significant growth of this region has not been matched in kind by the services, facilities and materials of the existing library. The planned expansion into a new, improved building represents a great civic gesture that will benefit all the citizens of Warwick and beyond.”
