WARWICK, N.Y. (September 29, 2009) - On Friday, October 23rd, at 7:00 PM, Purchase Jazz Orchestra (PJO), a 17-piece big band that performs jazz from every era, will hold a concert at Warwick Grove, as part of the Village Life Arts Series. From staples like Ellington and Basie, to more modern works by today’s leading composers and arrangers like McNeely, Clayton, Abene, and Schneider, the PJO is a favorite of jazz aficionados. Grammy Award-winning jazz bassist Todd Coolman, Director of the Purchase Jazz Studies Program, conducts the group.

Today, he is actively performing with an impressive array of artists including James Moody, Renee Rosnes, Charles McPherson, and The Jon Faddis Quartet and Jazz Orchestra. Coolman has recorded three CDs and has authored two books: The Bass Tradition and The Bottom Line. Among several academic recognitions, he holds a PhD in music from New York University and is frequently sought after as an author and research consultant for jazz CD liner notes. www.toddcoolman.com
