From Farm to Table
“Warwick’s Farmers’ Market is a community gathering place, drawing people to the center of town and letting them experience everything from artisan breads to floral vinegars, locally made goat cheeses to home-made chutney, and of course, morning-picked produce.” —Cheryl Rogowski, farmer, chef, and merchant
Every Sunday, from spring ‘till fall, Warwick’s Farmers’ Market is buzzing. Good for farmers, good for the local economy, good for the environment, and good for consumers, the market offers fresh, healthy, and delicious produce at competitive prices. Food travels a shorter distance from field to table and is less packaged. Also, Warwick shoppers have a place to buy organic and less intensively produced food.
What may be a more subtle benefit of the farmer’s market is how it strengthens the community. Everyone is there! You can count on running into friends, neighbors, and a whole range of people you might never encounter otherwise — all of them comparing the varieties of plums, toting a bag of greens, or sampling the delicious fall apples.
Congratulations to Cheryl Rowgoski, 2004 recipient of the “Genius Award” from the MacAuthur Fellows Program. The W. Rogowski Farm is a fourth generation family farm, growing more than 250 varieties of produce—much of it heirloom—using natural techniques. They offer a farm kitchen that serves fresh foods and is available for catering cooking classes, and dinners in the garden. The farm offers a Community Supported Agriculture program.
